Press Room

Janet Shopper“Shopping by bike lets me make the most of my time and money by getting a little exercise while taking care of errands. Bike shoppers are great for local business: we buy from businesses that are closer to home, shop more frequently and do less traveling around for the best deal.” –Janet Lafleur, founder of Bike to Shop Day Silicon Valley.

In support and celebration of May as National Bike Month and the growth of bicycling in our region, state and nation, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) is sponsoring “Bike to Shop Day” on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Over ninety local shops throughout the Silicon Valley area have already signed up to participate with special offers. The day’s focus is to encourage people to ride their bikes for shorter local trips, and highlight the growth of bicycling for errands and the “shop local” economic impact as bicyclists discover shopping in their own hometowns.

Media interested in interviewing Janet and other key “Bike to Shop” participants should contact Colin Heyne, Deputy Director at Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition: Tel. (408) 464-5195 or via email: colin at bikesiliconvalley.org.
